A Case of Clonorchis Sinensis Infection in the Gastric Pylorus Associated with Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Abstract

|
A Clonorchis sinensis is endemic in Korea, China, and Japan, and commonly infects hepatobiliary tract, but does not invade the parenchyme. Most clinical menifestions usually reflect direct or indirect effects of Clonorchis sinensis on the biliary tract, including cholangitis, cholecystitis or hepatomegaly. However, in most of cases, persons are lightly infected and asymptomatic. In the case of heavy infection, clonorchis sinensis is also found in the pancreatic duct and may be associated with pancreatitis. Involvement of extrahepatobiliary tract is very rare. We recently experienced a case of Clonorchis sinensis infection with surrounding granuloma in the pylorus associated with gastric adenocarcinoma.
